Professor Yusuf Sayed
Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom
Yusuf Sayed is Professor of Education at the University of Cambridge, where he is also a Fellow of Sidney Sussex College. He is also an Honorary Professor at the University of Cape Town. He has over 30 years of experience in international education as a scholar policy and practitioner across diverse academic institutional and development contexts. His scholarship focuses on the implications for national and global education policy goals of efforts to achieve equity and inclusion in and through education in countries of the Global South.
About this Session
This presentation examines global education policy reform, with particular attention to how pressing contemporary crises are shaping progress toward equitable, quality learning for all. Drawing on existing policy work, and featuring relevant examples from the Global South, it explores teacher education policy, environmental degradation, and conflict, and their implications for education. The seminar considers what these challenges mean for research, policy, and practice, and critically engages with their significance for the next set of post-2030 education goals and targets. It asks how far those goals can respond to current global realities.
